No doubt about it, the winter ahead looks daunting. Icy roads, fierce winds, and SNOW. Lots of it. You’re not the only one who thinks the idea of venturing outside this season is borderline lunacy.
But even with the cold weather quickly approaching, “outside time” is essential. Taking an “active” break gets you away from your desk and out of your seat. It will recharge you. You’ll gain better focus, added energy, and maybe even find that your creative juices are flowing more freely.
Taking an active break does not have to be a huge commitment. It can be as simple as a 10 or 15 minute walk around the block. What is important is planning these breaks into your day.
Why We Need These Breaks:
- It does a body good. Our bodies were not designed for sitting hours on end. Our backs, necks and shoulders feel the strain, along with our eyes from staring at our computer screens. Getting up and moving has made all the difference.
- You really will feel more creative and effective. When you return to your work after an active break your mind is clearer. Often something that has been overwhelming you may not seem as daunting.
- You’ll feel much better at the end of the day. Stress levels and headaches are lessened and you’ll leave work energized, not drained. That elusive “good night’s sleep” may also come more easily…
Take that time for yourself. Don’t put it off for the weekend. You are important. Today.
