Intraoral / TMJ Massage

Relief for Jaw Pain, Headaches & Tension

Intraoral massage is a specialized manual therapy technique used to treat the muscles inside the mouth that contribute to jaw pain, clenching, grinding, headaches, and TMJ dysfunction.

This advanced treatment focuses on the muscles of mastication — the deep muscles responsible for chewing and jaw movement — including areas that cannot be accessed from the outside of the face.

If you experience:

  • Jaw clicking or popping

  • Limited jaw opening

  • Pain while chewing

  • Chronic headaches or migraines

  • Ear pain or fullness

  • Teeth grinding (bruxism)

  • Facial tension or clenching

Intraoral TMJ massage may help.

What Is TMJ?

The temporomandibular joint (TMJ) connects your jaw to your skull. When the muscles around this joint become tight, overworked, or imbalanced, it can lead to pain, inflammation, and restricted movement.

TMJ dysfunction often stems from:

  • Chronic stress and clenching

  • Dental procedures

  • Trauma or whiplash

  • Postural imbalances

  • Long-term bite misalignment

Our approach focuses on restoring muscle balance and reducing inflammation so the joint can move more comfortably and efficiently.

What to Expect During Treatment

Intraoral massage is performed with gloved hands. Your therapist will gently access the muscles inside the cheek while also working externally on the jaw, neck, and surrounding structures.

Treatment may feel intense at times — especially in areas of chronic tension — but it should always feel safe and controlled. Communication is encouraged throughout the session.

Sessions are typically 60 minutes and may be combined with:

  • Neck and shoulder work

  • Craniosacral techniques

  • Myofascial release

  • Stress reduction strategies
